About Us

Dalileo Chocolate started with one family who discovered a nearly barren piece of land in the state of Alta Verapaz. Now, we have a mountain covered in native plants, hardwood trees, fruits, flowers, butterflies, bees and animals. We employ several workers from the surrounding area, and we are happy to host events as well as those people who have already fallen in love with our cacao and want to experience the land where it came from and learn about how we grow and process the cacao.

We also have a store and chocolate-making facility in San Marcos on Lake Atitlan.

The Land

Our farm, El Porvenir, is hidden on a mountain called Jolomijix (head of the Jaguar in local Keq chi) near a Mayan village in the state of Alta Verapaz. Once an abandoned coffee farm, El Porvenir now grows cacao in the shade of reforested trees, actively regenerating the land and allowing the rainforest to maintain it’s own natural cycles while we grow and harvest our cacao.

The space contains facilities for harvesting, fermenting, roasting and producing cacao. We also produce top-quality cardamom as well as a few other speciality items. Depending on seasons, we harvest lychee, mangos, rambutan, jackfruit, all kinds of citruses, avocado and mangosteen. We also raise free range organic pigs, cows, ducks, chicken and tilapia.

El Porvenir contains meeting and gathering spaces for ceremonies, educational events, holistic and arts gatherings and retreats. We also have space for those who are already providing our cacao to others via sale and ceremony and would like to visit the place where it is grown, harvested and processed.

The vision is to continue to create sustainable development in order to build an eco-village and educational center that is of benefit to the land, visitors, residents and the surrounding community alike.

The Cacao

We consider our cacao something both pleasurable and sacred. We treat our cacao with the same care, forethought and intention that we give to the land that surrounds our cacao trees. We believe this produces cacao that is able to inspire magic, love, enjoyment and healing.

Rather than using methods that increase the yield of our trees while negatively impacting the environment, we recreate the cacao trees’ natural environment, adding natural amendments when necessary, and allow the trees to produce on their own. Our trees are grown from seed rather than grafted, which means that every tree contains its own genetic makeup and each tree is a different individual. We believe this is a part of producing the highest quality cacao and chocolate.

We are also actively engaged in selecting, storing and growing seeds from endangered strains of cacao, thus protecting these heritage trees from being lost for good.

We provide various types of ceremonial-grade cacao in both small and large quantities, depending on your needs, as well as fine chocolates and flavored cacao beans. Please see our products page and get in touch with any questions and order requests.
